Blaah!

Blaah!

Food update for Katherine. She is not so crazy about it. We started with sweet potatoes and she liked it fine forĀ a few days and then was not really interested. She would turn her head to the side. Then we introduced avacado. Again, she liked it for the first two days and then not so much. Now I mix rice cereal, sweet potato, and avacado all together. It is surprisingly good (yes, I have tried it). She still is not to interested. I get a bite in to her mouth and she opens her mouth wide, sticks out her tongue and actually says, “blaah”. It is kind of cute and funny, yet frustrating. It is not really the tongue reflex and she is not doing it to spit it out, she just is investigating the funny textures. Anyway, it has made me not so motivated to do solid foods. I go to the effort to prepare it all, get her in the high chair and with the bib and then most of it gets thrown down the drain. I know it takes awhile, but it is just a pain. There have been a number of days, including today that I just did not get around to it. I know that in a few months she will be eating fingerfoods all by herself, it is just this transition time that I am not so excited about.

Try to get used to the “transition time”. When she’s eating finger foods, you’ll be trying to figure out ways to get her to eat the finger foods that are good for her and like now, you’ll be throwing a lot away.

I so understand the frustration, but she will like it one day soon. Hang in there. Thankfully, Caleb took to it right away. With Ethan it was a different story. We tried it, got frustrated, stopped for a week, tried again and he took to it better the second time around. Caleb still isn’t too fond of the cereal for the first few bites, but then he almost gets demanding once he gets used to the texture. Funny kids!

Keep at it with the solids. It gets better..some days anyways. Try broccoli. It was a definate hit for us. (Most of the time)

Been there - done that - twice. Not fun. Neither Emily nor Nathan ever took much to baby food. I threw away quite a few jars of baby food with only one bite missing before finally giving up. But despite never finishing a single jar of baby food, both kids are decent eaters now. They’ve even been known to ask for seconds on things like cauliflower and salad.

frozen peas were a hit at our house. You can just put a couple spoon fulls in a small bowl, rinse them, and nuke for about 20 seconds. The kiddos loved rolling, squishing, and eating them. Great fun and great for you too. Nathan sometimes requests his still frozen! Can’t quite figure that one out, but hey, he’s eating veggies.
