Vickery Christmas
| From January 2007 |
Our community group adopted a family for Christmas. This family has recenly moved to the Vickery area of Dallas from Burma. We received a list of some things that they wanted, mainly warm winter clothes.

Bri and I delivered the gifts to the family the week before Christmas. We had filled my trunk and the back of Bri’s SUV with gifts. It was quite a stash of clothes, books, toys and household items.

This family consisted of mom (21), dad (26) and two daughters age 5 and 6 mo. Their apartment was very sparse (but of course they had a TV). It was a two bedroom apartment but they felt that it was too big and are going tomove into a smaller, more cozy place when their initial assistance from the International Refugee Commission runs out. I came away really appreciating all of the material things that I have.

We were not able to communicate much because of the language barrier. We had a case worker with us but she more answered our questions rather than interpret our conversation with the family. It was easy to see the joy on thier faces as they opened our gifts. The 5 year old was especially excited as she opened gifts for the entire family.
