Right on the money

Jen had this fun little quiz on her blog. It asks you to answer questions about words that sound similar or the same and then evaluates your accent. My accent is from the “Midland”. Whenever I travel people are surprised that I am fron Texas because I don’t have much of a southern accent. Really my only giveaway is the fact that the word “ya’ll” is a regular part of my vocabulary. Most people do seem to think I am from the midwest.

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Midland

“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Man Tag

Filed under: Funny Stuff — Christy at 4:51 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2007

I have been “tagged” again by Jen. Here are my answers.

MAN TAG:
1. Who is your man? Sam
2. How long have you been married? 5 years on December 21st.
3. How long dated? We dated 4.5 months before we were engaged and 4 more months before we were married.

4. How old is your man? 33
5. Who eats more? Sam
6. Who said “I love you” first? Sam, but I brought up our DTR conversation (Define the Relationship)
7. Who is taller? Sam. He’s 6 ft, I’m 5′8″
8. Who sings better? Me
9. Who is smarter? Sam
10. Whose temper is worse? mine
11. Who does the laundry? Usually me
12. Who takes out the garbage? Sam
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? At home, me. If we are traveling, Sam sleeps on the side that is closest to the door so that he can protect me if there are middleof the night intruders. So far it has not happened.
14. Who pays the bills? Me.
15. Who is better with the computer? Sam is better at technical stuff. I am better at fun stuff like blogs, photos, etc. Computers are a necessary, frustrating presence in our lives.
16. Who mows the lawn? Mike Lybrand and his crew of 4 Mexicans bow, edge and blow the grass in only 12 minutes.
17. Who cooks dinner? Usually me, but he helps a lot if he is home in time.

18. Who drives when you are together? Sam drives, I direct.

19. Who pays when you go out? Usually Sam but since it all comes from the same place I do at times.

20. Who is most stubborn? Me
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? I would say Sam because I hate to admit I am wrong.
22. Whose parents do you see the most? Mine, since they are in town.
23. Who kissed who first? It just kind of happened with us both knowing it was about to happen so I guess we kissed each other.

24. Who asked who out? Sam emailed me to confirm our first dinner date but I had no recollection of him asking me out before that email. We still can’t remember how it happened.
25. Who proposed? Sam proposed at the Arboretum after a picnic by singing me a song that he wrote and then giving me the ring in a box with a special light that he had rigged up. 26. Who is more sensitive? We are both sensitive in different ways.
27. Who has more friends? Me
28. Who has more siblings? We have the same. He has one brother and a step brother and step sister who he was raised with and does not consider steps at all. I have one brother and two half sisters (does that mean I have a whole sister then?) who live in St. Louis so I don’t see them often.
29. Who wears the pants in the family? Yikes, I would hope to say Sam but in reality one of my biggest weaknesses as a wife is taking over and leading where I should sit back and let Sam be in charge. It really depends.

I tag Amy, Heather, Jaime  Shannon and Erin.

Roomba Run In

Tonight we had dinner at one of Sam’s coworker’s house. It was NOT babyproof and we were in such a rush to get there that we did not remember to bring her any toys. She actually did quite well. She was a little interested in the Jade statue of horses but it remained safe. She also enjoyed pushing all of the books further back on the bookshelf.

Her favorite was punching the on/off button on the Roomba. I was watching and quietly waiting to see if she would get it to start. Nothing happened for a long time and then all of a sudden the little robot came out of it’s dock and moved right in her direction. She ran and was quite scared. Everyone thought it was really funny and really cute. The funniest part was her reaction over the next 15 minutes. While Sam was holding her she would furrow her brow and babble on and on in a serious tone while shaking her finger. Then when we put her down she went near the Roomba and was literally scolding it. That is what the picture is of. I wish I had a video. It was so hilarious.

Bla bla bla

I have mentioned before that Katherine has had a language explosion. It is so fun. I have had a list of her words for some time and today I added all the ones I could think of that she says. The list has 110 spoken words and 50 signs. I am sure there are even more. Of course some of these words would be hard for another person to recognize, but these are words that are pretty close and said in context, either while pointing to the actual object or to a photo in a book. And this is not repeating words, I am not cheating to increase my daughter’s vocabulary. She is talking all the time. The cutest is when she picks up the phone. She is also learning all of her names. By looking at pictures of family and friends she can either name on her own or point correctly to her entire family on both sides and about 5 friends. The photos above are of her saying and then signing “cheese” when she was having her picture taken.

I’ve been tagged

Filed under: Funny Stuff — Christy at 2:48 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2007

In the bloggy world I have seen a lot of blogs where people have been tagged. Jen tagged me an embarassingly long time ago considering I never participated. Sorry Jen, here it is.

The Rules:**I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.**Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.**People who are tagged need to write their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.**Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I tend to overcommit myself as I have a hard time saying “no” to people when they ask me to do something. This makes me very busy which I like to an extent.

2. I am a procrastinator - big time. I always get done what I need to get done, but usually in teh 11th hour.

3. I can NEVER get to bed at a decent hour. Usual bedtime is at least midnight. I guess it is procrastinating on all of those commitments. Unfortunatly my dear husband also has a hard time getting to bed at a decent hour.

4. My all time favorite hobby is to travel. I have been to Europe 10 times including the countries of England, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Gibraltar, Russia, Italy, Greece, Norway, and Denmark. I have also been to Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala and the Bahamas.

5. I met my husband on the internet on eHarmony.com. The funny thing is that we already were aquaintances and lived only about a mile apart. Of all the millions of people on that site it was pretty funny that I was matched with someone so close, who attended the same church and who I had already met.

6. I have been skydiving. I am always doing things like that to worry my mom.

7. I have always wanted to be a mom. Now I am living my dream with my adorable 19 month old. It is hard somedays but it is always rewarding.

8. I wish I had more time to pursue my leisure activities - scrapbooks, photography, reading, cooking . . .

Now, I tag Erin, Amy, Heather, Lauren, Alice, Shannon, Jaime, Chrys and Kim

E-E

Filed under: Katherine, Friends, Funny Stuff — Christy at 4:29 pm on Saturday, August 18, 2007

Today when we were looking at pictures on the computer Katherine saw this one and said “E-E”. What is that you ask? It is her saying the name of her friend “Evie”. Evie is 10 months younger than Katherine so they do not really play together though we are very close friends with her parents so they are together a lot. Ten months is not that far apart in the grand scheme of things but at this point it means that Katherine is running and Evie is a wobbly new sitter. I thought it was so cute that she recognized her photo and got excited.

Katherine only has one other friend that she calls by name and that is her beloved mothers day out buddy Ben. When we pull up to Ms. Lori’s house she starts to say “Beya” (I can’t figure out how to type the phonics of what she says, sorry). Ben also loves Katherine and refers to her by “Kaprine”. They have a funny love/hate relationship. They fight like brothers and sisters but then miss each other when they are apart. It is so cute to see her forming friends.

Katherine - August 15, 2006

Katherine - August 2, 2007

Katherine is just tiny! Today she wore a shirt from last summer. It is size 3-6month. Katherine is 17 months old. Granted, the shirt is cut very loose and it was huge on her last year but still. This week we had an appointment with  Dr. H’s for Katherine’s fever and rash (roseola) and while we were there we weighed Katherine. She weighed 18 pounds, 10 ounces. Looking at the growth chart, she is still about 3%. She is one tiny girl. You can see though how much she has grown since last summer.

Soooo much fun!

Katherine is so much fun! She did several funny things today that were just too cute.

After breakfast she put her baby up in the high chair. I helped her put the bib on and got her an empty bowl and spoon and she proceeded to feed her baby. I moved the booster seat to her new art table so she could reach it more safely and she returned numerous times throughout the day to feed her more.

Tonight she kept turning upside down in the “downward dog” yoga pose. The thought it was really funny to look at me through her legs while I was upside down. Then when she was on my lap I flipped her onto the floor in a summer sault type move and she thought that was pretty funny.

She is really imitating us and everything we do. Today in our bathroom she opened Sam’s drawer, pulled out the deoderant, pulled off the cap and started to rub it all over her belly and arms. She had a nice musk smell the rest of the day. She has enjoyed sitting at my dressing table putting on her make up for a few weeks now.

Today we also went to have her photo taken. It was not her best photo shoot. The people at Portrait Innovations really earned their $10 today. We finally got some photos that were ok and the one I bought is cute though it looks a lot like her last set of pictures.

On a not so much fun note, Katherine just got over roseola. She had a fever on Friday and Saturday which at first we thought was due to teething since she had 2 molars come in this week. She was extremely fussy and clingy. On Sunday she had a light rash but she had been outside with dad for over an hour so I thought it was a heat rash or reaction to grass or something. She still had it Tuesday so I took her to the Dr. She had classic roseola symptoms. Since it is a viral rash there is nothing you can do for it but wait it out. And, since her fever broke Saturday night, she is no longer contagious.
